My Philosophy on the Process of Change

I believe change is fueled primarily by a deep desire for an expanded life … an orientation to something larger than the old patterns that are no longer working in our lives. Unless externally motivated by a crisis, a person usually does not readily give up unproductive patterns suddenly. Instead there is a low grade dissatisfaction and a gradual awakening to wanting something different which reaches a critical point where they move into action. It is at this time they may want seek the supports they need to master new directions for living. We circle around the idea of change by minimizing, ignoring, procrastinating, postponing because there is an natural resistance to letting go of old patterns, habits, thoughts, world views, etc. Coaching helps clients orient themselves towards their desired new goal and helps them remain focused on that desire while strategizing during the wobbly moments of pull back. The irony of our lives is that we are always changing and the more resilient one becomes to navigating change, the healthier we are as individuals.
